NEW ENGLAND CHIPPENDALE BIRCH SLANT LID DESK. Last quarter 18th century. The rectangular dovetailed case with hinged sloping lid opening to an interior fitted with a central bank of three blocked drawers, the uppermost shell carved. Flanked by document drawers applied with engaged half columns further flanked by an arrangement of valanced cubbyholes over a bank of two stationary drawers over four graduated long drawers, the uppermost flanked by lopers, on a molded base raised on bracket feet with shaped and scalloped returns and a central pendant.
