AMERICAN EAGLE FULL BODY MOLDED COPPER WEATHERVANE, EX-JOHNNY BENCH COLLECTION. Last quarter 19th century. The full bodied displayed eagle copper vane with solid zinc head perched upon a mid-molded copper ball retaining very nice verdigris surfaces and patina. Mounted on a later stand, included with this lot. SIZE: 21″ h of vane, 40″ wingspan, 36-1/2″ h overall including stand. PROVENANCE: From ex-private collection of Johnny Bench, former catcher for the Cincinnati Reds. CONDITION: Head very good. Proper right wing split on seam 3″ from tip. Old puncture on upper surface on mid point of wing. Proper left wing with 3/4″ tear front of wing at body. Split seam at front of wing 6″ from tip. Gap at seam at rear of wing 10″ from tip. Solder repairs to both talons at juncture to leg. Overall with several old restorations. Retains very pleasing appearance. 9-20718 (4,500-6,500)
