UNSIGNED (American, 19th Century) PAIR OF PORTRAITS OF A WOMAN AND GENTLEMAN. Fine oil on canvas ancestral half-portraits. The first shows a young woman with brown hair and eyes seated in a green upholstered chair and wearing a brown dress with lace collar and cuffs. She wears a pink ribbon with bow tie at neck with mourning pin. Her hand holds a page of an open book which is beside her. She is seen against a reddish background. The second shows a man in dark suit with white shirt and black bow tie. His arm rests on an arm chair and he is holding an item in his hand. He is seen against a greenish background. Housed in modern antique style frames. SIZE: 30″ x 25″. PROVENANCE: From a Central Maine Estate. CONDITION: Very good. Relined on new stretchers, minor inpainting. 9-73321, 9-73322 (1,000-2,000)
