UNIDENTIFIED OVAL BORE BLUNDERBUS. NSN. 58 Cal. 21-5/8” mostly oct bbl. There are no makers or proof marks. Probably French in origin although the lock has some English characteristics. The wrist of the walnut stock is decorated with skip line checkering and tiny circle stamps. The circles continue along the edge of the cheekpiece and terminate in the relief floral scroll carving at the rear. The brass buttplate has an applied finial in a different shade of brass. The large brass forearm tip is attached to the ramrod pipe. The wooden ramrod has a horn tip. The top jaw screw is stripped. CONDITION: Gray patina mixed with rust stains and light pitting. Brass parts have varying patina. Wood is cracked at the buttplate and is missing chips and slivers. There are gouges and bruises evenly distributed. Mechanically good. Wm.
