CAPTAIN THOMAS BENJAMIN ROLF POWDER HORN. Late 18th century. This nice scrimshawed example, the first two panels carved with the owner’s name, the next panel decorated with scrolling leaf tips. The next two panels, each with a deer grazing on a tree. The whole within multiple geometric designed borders. The end-cap and lanyard are absent. The narrow end applied with a carved wood pouring spout. SIZE: L 12″ PROVENANCE: Purchased in late 1950’s in Gloucester, MA directly from the grandson of the ship captain. CONDITION: As mentioned, with original surfaces, good patina and color. 9-96608 (1,500-2,500)
