FINE CHINESE CARVED DRAGON TABLE SCREEN. 19th century, China. The ebonized hardwood disc-shaped screen pierced and carved overall with multiple opposing dragons, each pair chasing a fiery pearl amongst cloud bands. The center deeply carved with the form of a dragon emerging from the screen, all above a pagoda within waves. Mounted on a scrolling base of archaic dragons on a molded plinth. The screen is mounted on a stylized rectangular platform within a fence carved with scrolling vinery. Raised on carved legs, each comprised of a carved foo dog resting upon a second dog. The back of the disc screen with basket weave lattice work. SIZE: Overall height: 49-3/4″. Overall width: 31″. Disc diameter: 28″. CONDITION: Generally very good. The fence of the platform with some small repairs, and absences of scroll work. 9-27837 (1,200-1,800)
