ROCKOLA OFFICIAL SWEEPSTAKES WITH GUM VENDOR. One of the nicest, all original examples that has come to market. In virtually untouched condition with vibrant coloring to cardboard insert, it retains a great deal of its original polychrome highlighting to front aluminum castings and retains anti-tip device within. A minor cleaning to the aluminum casting and a little furniture polish to the wood cabinet would make this a truly spectacular machine. The purpose would be to choose a horse (1-8)on the front indicator, deposit a penny, and advance the lever, causing the horses to race about. If your selected horse was the winner, the marble on the roulette style base would indicate the odds, which were anywhere from 2 to 30 to 1. Operator would pay the winner “under the counter” as this was not a gambling device, but for amusement only. The gum feature was an addition to circumvent gambling laws, thus stating the player was just buying a piece of gum for a penny. Machine is all original, right down to the rear door, lock and key.
