THOMAS ROWLANDSON (British, 1756-1827)”THE DOG FIGHT”. Watercolor scene shows an interior scene of a large hall with many men and dogs surrounding a low-walled area where two dogs are fighting. The owners stand by coaxing the dogs on. Several men hang from upper rafters. A fight in the crowd has broken out and several owners are holding their dogs back from the fray. Housed in an old gilt frame with discolored mat. The frame having a J. Assenheim & Son, New York label. SIZE: 6-3/4″h x 10-1/4″w. PROVENANCE: From an old Southern Maine Collection.
