TWO CINNABAR CARVED COVERED BOXES. Chinese, 19th century. Each rectangular lid finely carved in relief with figures of scholars within a mountainous forest landscape. Box sides carved with pattern of geometric repeating symbols. SIZE: 1-7/8″ h x 5-3/4″ l x 3-3/4″ w. PROVENANCE: From a fine New Jersey home. CONDITION: One lid with small hairline and with lifting and losses to black lacquer at bottom of box. Second box very good. 9-24581-1 (200-300)
