RARE BABY ELEPHANT MECHANICAL BANK. Designed and made by Charles Bailey. This is an extremely scarce bank made of lead with a wooden base. Because of limited production and the fact that the bank is extremely fragile, very few of these banks have survived. An elephant stands on top of a box and the sides of the box are embossed with elephants, monkeys, and crocodiles. At the top of the box is a dial, and when the dial points to ten o’clock, the elephant swings back exposing a coin slot where the coins can be deposited. A very ingenious bank. Very few examples of this bank exist in all original condition. SIZE: Length 4-1/2″. CONDITION: Unfortunately, this bank has its four sides, tongue and tail, and wooden base remade at a later date. Also, the red blanket on the elephant is in-painted. All in all, still very scarce in any condition. 1-9896 (2,000-3,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
