PAIR OF CHALK COMIC FIGURES: HAPPY HOOLIGAN & GLOOMY GUS. From the early 20th Century these two gentleman were quite popular in the newspapers and eventually portrayed in many toys, cast iron being the most popular. Happy Hooligan was perceived as what we would call today a street person and perhaps even referred to as a hobo. His brother Gloomy Gus obviously traveled about with his brother but never had a happy expression. Created by the celebrated cartoonist in 1900, Frederick Burr Opper. These figures are extremely detailed and painted and have a lifelike appearance. SIZE: Approx. 10-1/2″ t each. CONDITION: Overall very good plus.
