IVES HIPPODROME CLOCKWORK TOY REPLICA. An extremely rare and highly desirable toy, this particular piece was a faithful replica of the original Ives toy, originally manufactured in the later part of the 19th century. Lou Kummerow of northern California created a handful of these in the 1990s, never having seen one, but only by observing and studying pictures. Lou is known for producing miniature furniture and is highly regarded in that particular field. A truly wonderful toy that one could enjoy at a mere fraction of the price of an original if one could even hope to find an original for sale. Recently a market fresh example was sold by this firm for just under $70,000. Included in this lot is an original wooden box, also constructed by Lou Kummerow. SIZE: 15-1/2″ l.
