MAURICE (VALADON) UTRILLO (French, 1883-1955) TERRAINS A VENDRE. Oil/gouache on paper laid on canvas back street scene shows 5 pedestrians walking along a dirt street with multi-story buildings and wispy trees with no foliage. A sign on post reads “Terrains A Vendre S’Adresser 101 Rue de Paris Ivray (Seine)”. Signed lower right “Maurice Utrillo, V, Decembre 1924”. The stretcher having several labels, the earliest dated 1935, numbered 24444 with artist name with possibly a title and “R. V.”. Also a label “Douanes Paris Expositions”. Other chalk and black crayon numbers include “Lot 81, 3-7-7_?”. Also is a stenciled “A L 579″. Housed in an old and possibly original fancy carved and decorated frame with linen liner. SIZE: 21″ x 27-1/2”. PROVENANCE: We are told by the consignor that this was sold at Sotheby’s Parke Bernet in the 1970’s. CONDITION: Very good. 9-94515 (25,000-35,000)
