LARGE CONTINENTAL MARQUETRY WALNUT CASSONE. Dated 1648 and with monogram, probably Italian. Rectangular pine lid with picture frame molding mounted with original iron strap hinges above conforming case, front with alignment of four arched recessed panels of trompe l’oeil design echoing the design of the alternating flat molded columns. Each arch centered with conforming arch of marquetry vinery. Each column centering rectangular marquetry panel. All above a scalloped apron flanked by large bracket feet. SIZE: 33-1/2″ h x 81″ l overall x 25″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Bar Harbor, Maine home. CONDITION: Hardware original. Restoration to feet.
