RARE SCHOENHUT “FAIRFIELD WESTERN MARYLAND DAIRY” MILK WAGON. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, before Schoenhut declared bankruptcy, various milk and bread wagons were produced. Oftentimes a dairy could special-order wagons with their own logo, as is the case with this example. Two distinct versions of wagons were produced: the side entry and the rear entry. Please take note that a smaller container of milk or bread was needed for the side-entry model (6 bottles vs. 12 bottles). Included with the wagon is the original milkman and a case of milk. The dapple-gray horse is actually of German manufacture and specifically imported by Schoenhut for exclusive use with their various wagons. Extremely fancy leather trappings and chains to secure the horse to the traces, the horse being mounted on a wooden wheeled platform. This is a very rare and seldom found wagon, with fewer than a handful known. SIZE: Approx. 25″ l. overall. CONDITION: Some wear to wagon sides. Horse is slightly dusty and lacks horsehair tail, with minimal loss to leather trappings. Lacking a wheel on horse platform. 1-10523 (3,500-6,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
