FINE CONTINENTAL NEO-CLASSICAL CARVED TANKARD. 18th Century. This oversized example depicting a classical battle scene carved on a section of elephant tusk and mounted with a cast brass filigreed tankard frame. Hinged lid with pineapple finial cast overall with leaf tips and masks hinged on conforming collar and joined to an “S” scrolled brass handle cast with a carotid joined to a conforming base cast with leaf tips and sprays of fruit. The ivory body of the tankard carved with a tumultuous battle scene of warriors, horses, shields and various weapons superimposed on the whole. SIZE: 14-1/4″ h. CONDITION: The lid with small corroded holes and some minor denting. The tusk with multiple shrinkage cracks and splits throughout. 9-97562 (8,000-10,000)
