INTERESTING BLACK MECHANICAL CLOCKWORK BANJO PLAYER. A most comical piece of black memorabilia of unknown vintage. This fellow has a wind-up mechanism within his cardboard body and when the mechanism is activated he strums his banjo, taps his foot and his glass eyes peer about the room. A highly detailed and molded papier mache face with a huge open mouth grin and exposed teeth further add to his appeal. His disproportionate body further make this a most appealing and comical piece of black Americana. Perhaps not a manufactured piece, but rather something created at home in a workshop. But regardless, a lot of detail, thought, creativity, etc. was involved in producing this piece. SIZE: 21″ t. CONDITION: Overall very good plus! Quite a bit of dustiness, soiling to clothing. In excellent working condition. 1-11930 (850-1,250) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2012 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
