HENRI II CARVED WALNUT MARBLE TOP BUFFET. Last quarter 19th century, possibly Liege, France. The arched mirror with floral carved cresting above the molded surround with conforming French bevel mirror plate, flanked by free standing fluted columns with acanthus carved capitals, further flanked by shaped wing supports carved with scrolling leaf tips, joined to a pair of glove boxes, each fitted with a molded drawer. The rectangular case with outset corners fitted with a blue/green marble top above a long hinged drawer; the front opening to a leather lined writing surface and fitted with three aligned interior drawers, over a pair of cupboard doors opening to an interior fitted with three linen drawers over a single long drawer. The case flanked with free standing columns, the case front decorated overall with carved floral swags and clusters of ribbon tied musical instruments. SIZE: 87″ h overall, 40″ h of working surface, 53″ w x 22-1/2″ d. CONDITION: The piece retains original beveled mirror, finish, and cast brass hardware. 9-98130 (1,250-1,750)
