NEW ENGLAND PRESENTATION BANJO TIMEPIECE, BOSTON. Circa 1847. The mahogany case of typical form surmounted by a brass displayed eagle finial, the enameled steel dial with Roman numeral chapter ring. Brass movement engraved on backplate “1847 WM. BOND & SON, BOSTON”. With original pendulum and weight. The throat mounted with an eglomise panel depicting a displayed eagle above the Great Seal of the United States over dolphins, flanked by brass filets, over a square box base, the hinged door fitted with an eglomise panel depicting the battle between the USS Constitution and the HMS Java, the ships centering a displayed eagle with arrow cluster above an American shield flanked by gilt torches. SIZE: 34-1/2″ overall h. CONDITION: Case refinished. Brass works, dial, eglomise panels and pendulum all appear original. Pendulum bob has been repaired with wire; weight has dropped through the box base at one time and repaired. 9-23188 (1,750-2,750)
