Additional Information – PROVENANCE: The historic Perry House on the harbor in Southport, CT, descended through the family. GEORGE III MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK WM. SYKES HOLBECK. Late 18th century. The bonnet with molded swan’s neck pediment terminating in brass rosettes centering three ball finials above the astragal arched door, flanked by fluted Corinthean columns opening to an arched dial with moon phase aperture and incised “WILLm. SYKES, HOLBECK” above a silvered chapter ring within four cast brass scrolling spandrels, the engraved center dial with sweep second hand, calendar aperture, and time and strike apertures. The figured mahogany throat fitted with a molded door with concave arch, flanked by engaged fluted quarter columns, above the concave molded box base with canted corners, raised on a molded plinth with bracket feet. The whole with contrasting cross banding and string inlays. Clock sold with pendulum, winder, weights and three finials. SIZE: 93″ h x 15-1/2″ w (throat) x 9-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Case in very good structural condition with original finish; a professional repair on swan’s neck pediment. The interior or door affixed with label stating that the works received a complete cleaning in 1994, subsequently cleaned in 1998 and 2000. 9-97209 (1,500-2,500)
