SANTA & REINDEER ON WOODEN WHEELED BASE. From a New England attic, this is a fine early 20th century Christmas platform `toy. A snow-covered wooden board with inset iron wheels has four reindeer and Santa in a moss sleigh. The reindeer themselves have a flocked finish with glass eyes and painted lead antlers. Reindeer also have tufts of fur on top of their heads and backs and are extremely well molded and detailed. Leatherette trappings further add to the overall appeal. A dressed papier-mache Santa sits in the front of the bentwood and moss-covered sleigh. A wonderful and impressive Christmas item! SIZE: 25-1/2″ l. x 5″ w. CONDITION: Overall very good plus original condition. Minimal loss to moss on sleigh, appears to have some aged repairs to a few reindeer legs (but not obvious or offensive). Replaced leather traces from yokes to leather reindeer collars. Possible paint touch-up to lead antlers. 1-10520 (4,500-8,500)
