RENAISSANCE REVIVAL CARVED CURULE FORM ARMCHAIR. 19th century, probably Central Europe. This beech example with scrolling back crested by opposing crouching lions centering a gargoyle mask above a rondel carved with leaf tips flanked by scrolling vinery. The square molded arms similarly carved, the handgrips carved with lion busts. Each arm supported on eight curved supports continuing through the seat panels to curule form supports on clawfoot trestle bases. SIZE: Back: 38″ h. Seat: 18″ h. CONDITION: Surfaces original with some stress cracks to arm supports and chair supports. Otherwise very good. 9-29866 (300-500)
