CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY CHIPPENDALE STYLE BIRCH SLANT LID SECRETARY. 19th century, Connecticut. Benchmade in the Colchester style in two parts. Upper case with bonnet top and cove molded corners, fitted with three urn form acorn finials, center most joined to an inverted shell pediment. Case fitted with a pair of astragal arched, raised panel covered doors opening to an interior fitted with a pair of shelves over valanced cubby holes. Cabinet with fluted pilasters and joined to the mid-molded lower case having a hinged sloping lid with thumb molded edges resting on top of lopers and opening to an interior fitted with an arrangement of small drawers and valanced cubby holes. Above four graduated long drawers with thumb molded edges on a molded base, raised on bracket feet with scalloped returns. Case 37-1/4″ w x 19″ d. PROVENANCE: Robert Frederick Woolworth Estate, Monmouth, Maine. (F.W. Woolworth Store). CONDITION: Repolished with proper replaced brasses.
