LARGE GILT SHERATON LOOKING GLASS WITH EGLOMISE PANEL. Second quarter 19th century. Labeled on original backboard “SAMUEL CURTIS/15 & 17/WASHINGTON STREET/BOSTON-LOOKING GLASSES/PORTRAIT & PICTURE FRAMES”, etc. Rectangular mirror plate beneath an eglomise panel depicting a mother and child in classical attire on a Grecian recamier beneath billowing drapery, all within a gilded frame of engaged half columns applied with floral rosettes at the corners. SIZE: 46-3/4″ h x 22-3/4″ w. PROVENANCE: Connecticut family home which descended from Sarah Upson Goodrich (Mrs. Oliver R. Beckwith) who descended from the Rev. Charles Chauncey, President of Harvard College and Elder William Brewster. Sarah was a member of the Connecticut chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. CONDITION: Very good with original surfaces, mirror plate, and backboard. Label is mostly intact and readable. 9-21856 (2,000-3,000)
