COMICAL BLACK CLOCKWORK COUNTERTOP FIGURE. Of German manufacture and possibly used as a storefront window display, or elsewhere in an early 20th century establishment as an “attention getter”. Comical in nature, this black sharecropper with an oversized head and exaggerated lips looks about the store by means of a clockwork mechanism shifting his eyes back and forth. This fellow has molded shoes with a distressed appearance, molded blue jean overalls and white shirt, but wears a fancy red smoking jacket of cotton and velvet, in hopes of dressing himself up. His hands can be positioned to hold either a box or a card which obviously was used to promote an item the merchant was vending. A great and appealing piece of Americana! SIZE: 20″ h. CONDITION: Piece appears to have some paint enhancement/newer paint, cloth coat is soiled, otherwise overall very good and in working order. 1-10401 (2,000-3,000)
