REPUBLIC SIDE WHEELER ATTRIBUTED TO FALLOWS. An unusually large side wheeler with simple, yet elegant lines and features. A ribbed tin is used for the lower decking and hull of boat and a pressed and stamped tin is used for railings as well as upper deck of this side wheeler. Minimal stenciling, most notably to side wheel covers and utilized to simulate windows. Fallows had a distinctive, unique yet simple way of creating their toys and the use of stamped tin embossed parts was one of their defining influences in toy manufacturing. Pilot house on upper deck with embossed roof top and finial, and one large single stack and a small walking beam assembly. Flag and front bow pole with simulated headlight also add to the details. Attractively painted in predominantly cream with yellow, blue and red highlighting. Boats of this large size in American tin toys are extremely rare and seldom found. Original sales prices were very high compared to smaller toys and the extra large size compounded the fragility. SIZE: 20-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Older paint restoration to boat that shows wear and use. 1-10512 (7,000-9,000)
