SET OF 12 CHIPPENDALE STYLE MAHOGANY DINING CHAIRS. Late 19th/ early 20th century, New England. Comprising of pair of armchairs together with ten matching side chairs. Each benchmade example with arched foliate carved crestrail continuing to fluted shaped stiles, centering a pierced interwoven scrolling splat above the overupholstered trapezoidal seat. Each raised on square molded frontal legs, the rear legs backswept, joined by recessed box stretcher. The armchairs with shaped arms continuing to acanthus leaf carved hand grips on conforming supports. SIZE: Armchairs: 39-1/2″ h of back. 29″ w of arm. 19″ h of seat. Side chairs: 36″ h of back. 19″ h of seat. PROVENANCE: From a fine Augusta, Maine estate. CONDITION: With original untouched surfaces. Structurally sound with dark rich color. Minor and minimal shrinkage cracks evident in some spots. Overall very good. Fabric covering showing deterioration. 9-29198 (1,500-2,500)
