IVES CLOCKWORK HORSE HEAD PERAMBULATOR. An exceptional original example of an early American clockwork toy. Most appealing, this is a replica in miniature form of a child’s perambulator. This particular example is an unusual color, yellow, with red and black pin striping. The wooden propeller stick on this toy are actually activated by wires attached to the large rear wheels. When the toy’s mechanism is activated it rolls across carpet and gives lifelike appearance as though the figure is propelling the toy using the sticks, just like the real thing! Further decoration to this toy include a painted tin horse head in front, a fine decal behind the child, and the original paper label (Patented April 8, 1873). This toy was produced the by the Ives firm for a number of years and they employed various different figures, including Uncle Sam and a monkey. Various heads were used, this one being a Superior papier mache head. The original clothing is in very fine condition with minimal wear/damage and slight dustiness to clothing. SIZE: 8″. CONDITION: Overall very fine plus, with NO repairs, replacements and/or repainting. Mechanism tested and in functional condition. 1-10321 (14,000-18,000)
