IRISH COROMANDEL DRESSING BOX. Circa 1849. This fine example engraved on the brass lock plate “AUSTIN Manufacturee St. Andrew St. DUBLIN”. Of rectangular form, the hinged lid inlaid with brass and fitted with a velvet latched lid opening to a storage compartment and in itself a stationary compartment. The box with a removable tray fitted with 7 cut glass bottles and 4 rectangular cut glass boxes all with chased silver lids. Each hallmarked. Centering a smaller tray fitted with various instruments of personal hygiene. The front of the box with a hinged lid opening to reveal two long drawers, the top drawer leather lined, the bottom drawer fitted with a tooled leather lid opening to a compartmented jewelry tray. The box fitted with campaign style brass carrying handles. SIZE: 7-1/2″ h x 13-1/2″ l x 9-1/2″ d. CONDITION: The wood surfaces with original finish. Several pieces of brass stringing and inlays in need of restoration. The central rondel or plaque absent. The silver lidded boxes and bottles in good condition.
