CLOCKWORK BLACK BOY CHASING PIG TOY ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGE BROWN. The black boy is dressed in red and white with a yellow cap. The pig is white with brush strokes of brown highlights. A very unusual feature of this toy is the black faced boy. In American tin toys black faces were rarely used. One can only speculate why! As the motor unwinds and the toy moves along the floor, the hog is activated by the wire attached to the clockwork mechanism inside the housing underneath. The up and down movement of the hog causes the boy, holding the hog’s tail, to pivot back & forth. Similar example in Barenholtz book on page 134. This quarry looks as if it’s been caught, but so long as the boy hold only tail, the chase is never over! SIZE: Platform size 4-1/4″ x 2″. CONDITION: Overall very fine original condition, clockwork mechanism untested. Almost insignificant repair/paint touch up to boy’s wrist, visible by black light inspection. 1-10466 (3,500-5,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
