ARTHUR QUARTLEY (American, 1839-1886) “MACKEREL BOATS”. Fine oil on canvas scene shows a group of two-mast fishing boats on calm sea. The closest boat has two men aboard and is moored to a post and is seen in silhouette against a bright sky. Signed lower left and dated “1875”. Housed in what appears to be its original gesso decorated gilt frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 14″ x 11-3/4″. CONDITION: Relined with cutout window for original title. Very good with craquelure and minor craquelure touch up. 9-93902 (4,000-6,000)
