NOEL FOMBE (South African, 20th Century) BEAUTIFUL CARVED VERDITE FEMALE AFRICAN HEAD. Carved from verdite, this three-quarter bust of a woman of the Matabele Tribe. Her hair in small braid-like rows joined in a large ponytail wearing earrings and a large beaded necklace. Signed by the artist on the side of bust. SIZE: 11-1/2″ h x 6-3/4″ w x 4-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: This example carved by Noel who was one of three brothers, all sculptors, who are part of the Barnabas Sculptors of the Shona Tribe, working and living in Mandela Village, South Africa. CONDITION: Very fine condition, a very small surface scratch can be found on right proper cheekbone. 9-99008 (3,000-5,000)
