NICELY CARVED 18TH CENTURY LIFT TOP BLANKET CHEST. The molded edge single plank top having two hand wrought hinges which opens to reveal a lidded till and open box. The front having three panels, each having a deeply carved relief grape bunch with leaves. The top and bottom border with decorative carving band, the side front panels with grape vine carving. The front apron having nicely carved scroll design with graduated carved ball design. The sides with a carved boot jack design. SIZE: 25-1/2″ h x 51-1/2″ at widest x 21″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Washington, Maine Estate. CONDITION: Nice old patina, old crack on right side. Generally very good. 9-95776 (1,500-2,500)
