STURDITOY COAL TRUCK WITH SIDE CHUTE. A relatively obscure Sturditoy vehicle, the coal bed is shaped to funnel its load through the right front corner of the bed. There is a small exterior chute with a flap to release the coal and into the waiting coal bin. Oftentimes the truck would pull alongside the house, and of course it would make perfect sense to unload through the side versus backing up into the street and unloading through the rear. At some point in time, there was a small tin removable chute that would have attached to the fixed chute that would allow the coal to travel a distance over the sidewalk directly into the coal bin in the basement. As is typical, it features tin disc wheels with black rubber tires, and this particular toy has a decal on the dashboard with simulated gauges and a slightly earlier Sturditoy decal on the floorboard, which reads “Made by Pressed Metal Co., Pawtucket, RI.” SIZE: 24″ l. CONDITION: Overall good to very good. Some paint chipping to cab roof, front fenders, and most noticeable at bottom of funnel on bed of vehicle. 1-13083 (1,500-2,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - June 2013 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
