GERMAN DIRIGIBLE, GONDOLA WIND-UP. Early hand-painted aeronautical toys are extremely desirable, and this is one of the more unusual of these toys. The large red zeppelin has a yellow gondola to which a figure under a parachute is attached. Toy has unique mechanisms. When string on top of zeppelin is pulled, propellers on side of zeppelin turn, propelling airship. Also has second mechanism in gondola to which the parachutist is attached, and when string is coiled on mechanism and lever is released, parachutist is launched from airship. SIZE: Zeppelin 10″ l. PROVENANCE: Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: Because the paint was not primed on most of these early toys, they usually have chipping or loss to paint as this one does. For a toy of this vintage, it is still considered to be in very good condition. Figure in parachute probably has paint enhancement. Overall, very good. 1-10184 (2,500-4,500)
