J. SCRIBER KEY WIND CYLINDER MUSIC BOX. Extremely rare maker and case style. Gamme #1297 and serial #30263, circa 1830, by J. Scriber of Geneva, Switzerland. The name J. Scriber is etched in the upper left corner of the bedplate and on the governor. The mechanism includes a left side door that opens to reveal the stop/start, change/repeat and technician’s levers. The solid brass bedplate holds an 11.5″ brass cylinder and 106-tooth musical comb which play six classical and popular songs, as shown in the original hand-written tune card. All housed in a solid walnut case with the front and top featuring a polychrome mixed wood inlay of flowers, leaves and scrolls. The sides have a similar design, and also has a centered ivory inlay. There is an inner glass lid, a winding key and compartment on the right. SIZE: 18″ l x 5″ h x 6-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Very good to excellent 1-9780 (2,500-3,000)
