RARE PAINTED “LANDING OF COLUMBUS” BELL TOY. Given to Harry Doster in 1882, when he was 6 years old, by his parents who moved to Lincoln, PA., in 1900. Harry sold his toy to Harald Minnich in 1068. Manufactured by J. & E. Stevens Co, an unprecedented example of a somewhat often found bell toy, when comparing the gold-wash version side-by-side with this polychromed version, the differences and appeal are monumental. Even more so, it is a great find to have an original wooden box (inc. name of toy and manufacturer stamped on box) for a bell toy! Originally this toy surfaced in the Adamstown, PA, area and was immediately purchased by a collector. Bob and Jackie were fortunate enough to purchase this toy from that collector many years later. When James Julia sold the Bob & Jackie Stewart in 2005, this toy was purchased for $10,350 by another toy collector. SIZE: 7″ h. CONDITION: Overall condition is fine to very fine, box is in excellent condition. 1-13165 (4,500-8,500)
