PAINTED AND CARVED FISH MENU BOARD. Late 19th/early 20th century, New York. The hand carved pine menu board in the form of a flounder with polychrome speckled paint decoration on a light brown ground. The single-sided sign with original iron mounting brackets. A rectangular slate within a molded frame mounted within the carving. SIZE: 55″ l x 38″ w. PROVENANCE: Removed from the Metro Fish Restaurant, 36th St., New York City. CONDITION: Sign with old shrinkage cracks and some losses to fins above below head. Minor paint losses from dryness and abrasion throughout. Otherwise good. 9-29022 (1,800-2,200)
