ANGLO-INDIAN CARVED CAMPHOR LINEN PRESS. First quarter 19th century. In two parts, the upper cabinet with molded corners, the paneled doors carved with oval floral paterae within fan spandrels. Opening to an interior fitted with three sliding linen trays. The cabinet fitted to the lower case, the top with half round molded edges and fitted with a pair of aligned short drawers above three long drawers; all with fitted brass campaign handles and with ebony string inlaid borders. Case sides fitted with brass carrying handles. All on a molded base raised on claw feet and castors with shaped returns. SIZE: Overall 85″ h x 52-1/2″ w x 23″ d. PROVENANCE: Robert Frederick Woolworth Estate, Monmouth, Maine. (F.W. Woolworth Store). CONDITION: Linen press stripped of its original surfaces, now a rich honey brown. Top of cornice absent.
