MILLS FIVE CENT “BASEBALL” SLOT MACHINE. An extremely rare and highly sought after gambling machine from the 1930s. Machine is in primarily original condition but has been “cleaned up” a bit, the wood has original gold stenciling. However, a clear coat has been added to protect and preserve its beauty. The aluminum castings are extremely clean and retain most of their original paint highlight, the award card, lithographed play field and reel strips are original and in great condition. Machine has great play action and functions very smoothly. Even the original door, which is grain painted on steel is intact and in great condition. This perhaps was one of the greatest gimmick machines made by Mills and copied by other companies, Watling, Jennings etc. The concept was for two players to alternately play while scoring runs and adjusting the knobs on the front casting. Not only did the operator navigate the gambling laws by vending life savers, he could claim that this was not a gambling device, but rather a game of skill and amusement with those involved playing “baseball”. Often times a winning combination was not “paid” until the next coin was deposited and the handle pulled. A marquee (replica) on top of the machine tells the prospective player the rules of the game and indicates possible winning combinations. This machine appeals not only to the coin-op folks, but collectors of baseball memorabilia as well. SIZE: 16″ x 16″ x 27″. CONDITION: Overall is excellent, original.
