UNUSUAL HUNG MU CASED DUAN INKSTONE. Chinese, late 19th/early 20th century. The case carved in the form of a melon fitted with a conforming Duan inkstone, the reverse inscribed “Tien Hsia Tai Ping” (great peace to all under heaven). The stone with incised decoration of melon leaves seedlings. SIZE: 2-1/4″ h overall. Case: 7-1/2″ l x 5-1/2″ w. Stone: 6″ x 4-3/4″. PROVENANCE: From a private collection. CONDITION: Very good overall. Case surfaces cleaned but with good patina. Bottom of case with multiple shrinkage cracks. 9-23958 (3,000-5,000)
