FRAMED AUTOGRAPH: JOHN HANCOCK; PRESIDENT SECOND CONTINENTAL CONGRESS (American, 1737-1793). Framed presentation of the Declaration of Independence which is a reprint of the John Dunlap broadside which is after a copy owned by the Maine Historical Society of which this is a limited edition reproduction. Limited to 100 by the Ascensius Press on a mold-made rag paper. On the bottom right has been placed an authentic John Hancock signature which has been clipped from another document. The part reads “Chas. Thomson by order of Congress John Hancock, President”. Charles Thompson was the Secretary of Congress and this signature is the same as it appears on the Declaration of Independence. Housed in a fine teak frame with white matte. SIZE: Total: 25″ x 19″. Signature document: 1-1/2″ h x 4-1/4″ l. PROVENANCE: Collection of Elwyn Dearborn, Medford, NJ & Portland, ME.
