MARTIN ACROBAT AND BOXED FRENCH ACROBATIC TOY. Lot includes a desirable Martin acrobat that when wound will do somersaults about the floor. In all original condition and clothing, mechanism is in working order but would benefit by some minor lubrication. Typical of Martin the toy employs stamped tin and brass materials for various body parts and hand enameled to finish them off. Original cotton clothing with minimal soiling, but some distress, most notably to back where a small section has melted away. Also includes a French Les Voltigeuers tumbling acrobat toy with its original box. Often seen, but rarely is it found in its original box, which also pictures toy. Placing the figures at the top, they cascade down a series of wires, giving the illusion of performing acrobatic feats. Oftentimes toys of this nature represented true life circus acts as in Martin’s Mysterious Ball as is the case here. Figures appear to be made of a compo material and are gaily painted. SIZE: 7″ h and 14″ h, respectively. CONDITION: Martin toy is good to very good. Some chipping to face and black hair. Acrobats’ box shows fair amount of distress to base and missing flaps to lid. Figures show uniform paint chipping/loss. 1-12941, 1-12947 (450-750)
