HISTORICAL COLLECTION OF DECATUR FAMILY ITEMS. 1) Early gold pocket watch belonging to Thomas Ten Eyck. The watch has attached an old pen inscribed provenance which is handwritten on a Mr. Stephen Decatur calling card “Thomas Ten Eyck’s watch which my father Commodore Stephen Decatur always wore and although blind, he could always quickly tell the time by sense of touching the hands with his fingers”. Thomas Ten Eyck’s daughter, Marie Ten Eycj, married Commodore Stephen Decatur’s brother Col. John Pine Decatur, who was the consignor great, great, great grandfather. The watch is in a double case with London hallmarks believed to be 1777/8 or 1811. The movement with fancy filigree work signed “Peacock 3847 Royal Exchange London”. Verge Fusee movement. 2) 18kt yellow gold hunter case pocket watch by American Waltham. Back with monogram, the case marked “18K”, the movement marked “A.M. Watch Co.”, serial number “2040159”. The front cover having the Decatur family crest of a dragon head over crown and the back with monogram “SD” (probably Stephen Decatur, Jr). 3) A 2-1/2″ h x 3″ dia unmarked silver handless cup with thin rolled rim. There is a script period monogram “A.P.” on side of cup. This is for Anna Pine Decatur, who was wife of then Captain Stephen Decatur Senior who was Commodore Stephen Decatur’s father (the Commodore had no children). Col. John Pine Decatur, received the cup then gave it to his daughter, Ann Pine Decatur (Mrs. Wm. H. Parsons) then to her son (Wm. Decatur Parsons); to the Commodore’s brother to the consignors mother Ann Courtney Decatur. In 1854 Anna Pine Decatur married Capt. William H. Parsons who captained ships owned by Ichabod Goodwin of Portsmouth, New Hampshire who was governor of New Hampshire (1859-61). An old handwritten note accompanies the cup. 4) 2″ l napkin ring. The napkin ring inscribed “Stephen Decatur Jr”. A crude oval form, silver plated napkin ring belonging to Stephen Decatur, Jr who was born April 10, 1880 and died March 7, 1964. He was the son of Stephen Decatur of Boston and Mabel Storer of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Mabel Storer was the daughter of Samuel Storer and Sarah Parker Rice Goodwin of the prominent Goodwin family of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Stephen Decatur Jr married Winifred Rogers who was the daughter of Rear Admiral Charles Rogers. 5) 3″ Military fabric covered bar pin of Military Rank. 6) 2″ stick pin with eagle crest. According to the family this belonged to Commodore Stephen Decatur, the consignors great, great, great, great uncle. 7) 13-1/2″ letter opener with ivory handle and silver plated hardware with sheath. The pointed blade is marked with name, which is illegible and has gold colored engraving work. SIZE: As noted. CONDITION: Everything shows use, generally in good condition.
