TALL WOOD CASED “YELLOW KID” GUM MACHINE BY PULVER CHEMICAL COMPANY. An outstanding example of a clockwork turn of the century gum vendor with the truly first American comic kid…the Yellow Kid. A single column gum vendor, activated by a penny, the Yellow Kid bows, then turns to the gum column, raising his hand to his mouth and then turns back to observe the delight of the young child receiving a stick of gum. A pot metal head with original paint and a polished cotton gown adorn the Yellow Kid figure. Cabinet is constructed of oak with a glass front window and two smaller glass windows on either side. An oval brass tag (replated in nickel) is mounted to the front panel/door. Truly not only is this a great coin operated vending machine but a wonderful piece of turn of the century Americana. SIZE: Approx. 12″ x 8″ x 26″. CONDITION: Overall machine is in original finish, however patina on front door does not match the rest of the cabinet. Perhaps someone at sometime decided to “clean” or “refurbish” the wood finish?? Paper label on front door is intact, stained, two sided and appears to be vintage and original to machine. 1-9476 (5,000-10,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Fall 2009 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
