SCHOENHUT DUTCH BOY & GIRL JOLLY JIGGERS. The Schoenhut firm created and manufactured many wonderful and unique toys from the late 1800s to their bankruptcy in the early 1930s. The jolly jiggers were produced as Dutch boy and girl or a black dude, but in either case, with a child playing, a headache for the adult was all but guaranteed. Noisy things, we’re sure the child was banished to the outside as the action involved a paddle hitting the feet of the dancers and as a result was a most realistic dance. The location of the dancers could be changed to a center position as well as the ability to have them dance individually by locking a piece of tin on the handle. The figure themselves, which are approximately 12″ h are dressed in Dutch garb and their papier mache heads were also used on Schoenhut’s line of Roly Poly’s. SIZE: Approximately 21″ l x 11″ w x 16″ h. CONDITION: Overall very fine all original condition with only some minor wear/chipping to faces of both figures. 1-12462 (750-1,500)
