GEORGE III BURR WALNUT LINEN PRESS. Second half 18th century. In two parts, the upper section with cove molded corners above the rectangular case fitted with a pair of cross-banded doors, each applied with a shaped, molded, string inlaid burr panel opening to an interior of four fixed shelves above three aligned short drawers. Fitted to the lower case of three graduated cross-banded cockbeaded long drawers joined to a cove molded base with central drop panel, raised on bracket feet with shaped returns. SIZE: 84-1/2″ h x 61-1/2″ w x 23″ d. PROVENANCE: From a New England Institution. CONDITION: The linen press retains early if not original surfaces. The moldings, constructed from small sections, are missing some of same. Paneled doors with shrinkage cracks as are case side panels. Proper left rear foot a later replacement. In need of professional restoration. Good overall. 9-22394 (1,500-3,000)
