EXTREMELY RARE SALEM WITCH TOY WITH ORIGINAL BOX. Early patent dates of 1867 & 1868 by Charles T. Ford were filed for this unique and interesting toy. According to the dial, this toy was manufactured by E. Trask and referred to as “The Salem Witch”. A “fortune wheel” in front of the witch with numbers 1-17 would indicate your fortune. This cataloger is not sure if this was a child’s toy or more of an adult curiosity? The seated figure is dressed in a dark polished cotton outfit and when activating a lever, her hand would spin the wheel and her well detailed wooden painted face would turn from side to side. A remarkable toy in all original condition. Only a handful of these are still known to exist and most likely due to the fact that it was perhaps a dark oddity. SIZE: 6″ h x 6″ w. PROVENANCE: The Diane and late Steve Olin collection. CONDITION: As stated above, minimal distress to outfit as well as paper on fortune reel. 1-13272 (4,500-5,500)
