GOTHIC REVIVAL EBONIZED SLANT LID DESK ATTRIBUTED TO KIMBEL & CABUS. 1870-1880. New York City. The stepped upper section with central cupboard flanked by shelves above two short drawers, all with incised floral carvings, each section with turned gallery’s and joined to the lower case, having a hinged sloping lid, further opening to a well of polished cherry over hanging a pair of cupboard doors centering an open shelf, raised on a spool-turned trestle base. All elements with similar incised carvings, the doors all with elaborate polished brass strap hinges typical of the work of Kimbel & Cabus. SIZE: h. 64-3/4″ x w. 38-3/4″ x d. 21″ CONDITION: All original with slight roughness along front edge of desk lid due to use and wear. Two moldings absent right side facing and upper section. Two ebonized returns absent beneath lower cabinet doors otherwise very good. 9-20386 (2,500-4,500)
