CARVED AND INLAID HARDWOOD JEWELRY BOX. Chinese, 20th century. Possibly zitan, the surface carved with pines and inlaid with flowers and a crane in mother of pearl and soapstone. Inset plaque reading “Garden of the cranes of longevity”. The rectangular box fitted with a sliding lid. Borders carved of cloud bands. SIZE: 3-1/2″ h x 10-3/4″ l x 6-3/4″ w. PROVENANCE: From the private collection of the grand-niece of the last Emperor Puyi of the Qing Dynasty and granddaughter of crown Prince Pujun.
